Abstract:
»Ann Marie Alfonso Short considers the spotlight thrown on Junot Díaz and his work after an essay in which he described his own experience of childhood rape was quickly followed by accusations against him of sexual assault; she asks how we can acknowledge Díaz's suffering as a survivor while criticizing his behavior as a perpetrator, and how productively to use his complicated history to reflect on constructs of masculine authority in his work.«
